The
Habitat Store Mission
A Habitat Store is a
facility that supports the services provided by
its local Habitat for
Humanity affiliate. The
income generated from the project goes
specifically toward
expanding the building
program of the local Habitat affiliate.
Habitat
Stores recycle overstocked, discontinued, new
and used building materials
donated by
manufacturers, stores, contractors and
individuals. They also stock
appliances,
furniture, and much more. These donated items
are sold to the public
or used in construction
of Habitat houses. All revenue from sales goes
to the local
affiliate in support of its
building program.
The
Lewiston-Clarkston Partners
organization became an affiliate of Habitat for
Humanity International in 1991. Since then the
local affiliate has constructed 19
new homes and
remodeled one home. The homes are sold to
partner families
in need at no profit on a
twenty-year no interest mortgage.
The Lewiston
Idaho Habitat Store opened in mid-September
2006. It has been
very well received by the
Lewiston/Clarkston community. After the
first year of
operation the store generated approximately
$75,000 in net income; enough to
fund the building of an additional home. We've gradually
added shelving and
display fixtures and the
store is now well stocked with a variety of
merchandise.
Sales and donations have been
well above expectations.
The Habitat Store
is run by volunteer help and the merchandise we
sell is all
donated by individuals and
businesses. Donations are tax deductible since
we
are a non-profit organization. The proceeds
from the Habitat Store go to the
Habitat for
Humanity home building projects. Building
projects provide families
in need with a decent
place to live that
is safe and affordable. It is a home in
which
hope and personal dignity can thrive.
You never know what you'll find at Habitat
Store
One of the
things that the Habitat Shoppers love (besides
our low prices) is that
you never know what
you'll find at the Store. Because we receive
donations on
a daily basis, our inventory
changes rapidly. Today there's a blue bathtub
sitting
on the floor and tomorrow it's replaced
by a stack of marble tile. The Habitat Store
shoppers know they'll always find a stock of
doors, windows, etc, but when you see
these
one-of-a-kind prizes... snap them up quickly...
or someone else will!
